Who we are

Dr Janet Deane, is an ICF/EMCC Certified Academic Coach, Consultant Associate Professor and Founder of The Academic Coach Space. She empowers STEMB and Clinical Academics to unlock their potential through tailored coaching, grounded in evidence based growth mindset and positive psychology approaches.

With over 25 years of experience as a research leader, scientist, clinician, educator, coach and mentor, she has earned prestigious awards including fellowships from Versus Arthritis, the NIHR and recognition from the Society of Back Pain Research and the Physiological Society of Ireland and England. Janet was the first non-medical clinical academic in the UK to receive an NIHR IAT Clinical Lectureship from the University of Manchester, and her work in clinical biomechanics and digital technology has led to collaborations with global leading research institutions, start ups, charitable trusts and health organisations.

A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she has taught and supervised a range of national and international MSc, Pre-doctoral, PhD and Post-doctoral students, led research initiatives across the NHS and HEI sectors, and remains dedicated to helping academics build balanced, impactful careers through innovation, resilience, and purpose-driven leadership. In support of PhD, Professional Doctoral students and their supervisors, she has recently published her first book entitled 'Doctorate: finding your way' (Elsevier Health).
