In 2018, I decided to create a community. At that time, I felt isolated as a PhD student, mother, clinician and scientist in healthcare. I pitched my idea to Imperial College London and was awarded the Imperial Research Community Fund to build an virtual peer support community for academics in healthcare research.
I am proud to say that the ‘Healthcare Professionals in Research’ or HPiR community has just reached over 1000 members.
Over the years we have used this space to build academic capacity and capability and to connect our community across the United Kingdom and abroad, building opportunities for members to lead, moderate and curate this virtual space, to share experiences and to learn from each other (#SupportShareInspire).
As a fellow STEMB or clinical academic in healthcare, don’t go it alone.
